The Pixel 4A is quickly becoming one of the most highly anticipated phones of the year. Every week new information comes to life detailing what we can expect from Google’s next launch in the smartphone market space. After Google I/O 2020 was cancelled due to the Covid-19 outbreak we had expected the phone to launch exclusively online at the original speculated time of release; however, as it came closer to that date it was clear Google had other plans.

New rumours and confirmed information is now surfacing, heating up the anticipation of this new phone and, at a time where people really need a boost, this is bringing a lot of excitement to those keen to get their hands on the Google’s latest tech. Whilst a confirmed date hasn’t been given sources around the web are suggesting we will see the device launch around the 13th July- just over a week from now. These speculations are backed up with a fair amount of evidence – the phone has hit the FCC, IMDA and Taiwan’s NCC which are usually the last steps before launch. Even if the phone doesn’t drop on the 13th we know it cant be much longer now due to these confirmed drops on websites like FCC. However, there is some speculation that general release may be as late as October 22nd meaning fans of the device will still have a while to wait between seeing the device at launch and having it in their hand.

In terms of design, there are of course a few features we know will carry over from the Pixel 4 including; the square-shaped camera bump on the back of the device, the white colourway, Google ‘G’ logo and orange-coloured power button. Some other features we know are likely on the device are; a headphone jack, a rear mounted fingerprint sensor, 128GB of storage as the smallest and the front camera will be located in a display cutout in the top left of the screen. Other colours we may see include ‘Just Black’ and ‘Barely Blue’, although these may not all be released at the same time.

Finally, we wanted to discuss one of the biggest areas of speculation with any new tech release – the price! Before consumers decide whether or not a product is for them, they will likely need to take into consideration the price, hence this becomes one of the topics people are most curious about ahead of launch. With Google phones, the tech community are usually able to make accurate guesses thanks to the company’s consistent pricing structure. The Google Pixel 3 and 4 both had an entry price of $799 which leads us to believe that they may be consistent with the series – the 3a was launched at $399 and so it’s not unreasonable to assume the 4A will be the same. Another leak from 9to5 Google’s Stephen Hall has said the Pixel 4A will start as low as $349 making this a great saving of $50 and making this one of the best options for a phone within this price range.
